| Students in our department benefit from small classes and the personal attention of the faculty. Our students also gain valuable experiences through participation in internships, clubs, research projects, and professional organizations. The Department annually awards scholarships totaling over $18,000 to qualified undergraduates. Our Department received the University of Nebraska Department Teaching Award in 2002, which is given annually to one department within the four-campus system. | |

Graduate students receive assistantships, with opportunities for additional scholarships and fellowships. Graduate studies can lead to a Master of Science or Ph.D. Department facilities provide the laboratories and the equipment for study of agricultural machines and power units, animal and plant environment control systems, bioprocessing systems, engineering properties of food and biosynthetic materials, biomedical engineering, irrigation hydraulics, and pollution control. Modern instruments available in the laboratories include computers, electronic image processors, water and air flow measurement devices, plant and animal environment chambers, global positioning systems equipment, and computer-aided design equipment. Fermenter, cross-flow filtration devices, protein purification and separation equipment, and chromatography units for student lab work are located nearby in the Food Industry Complex. Students in biomedical engineering also have access to the University Dental College labs, The University of Nebraska Medical Center labs and library, and internships (such as tissue engineering or cardiovascular machinery). North of our building is the two-story Splinter Laboratory and the Nebraska Tractor Testing Laboratory. The faculty also conduct research at the Rogers Memorial Farm, Agricultural Research and Development Center in Mead, Nebraska, and four Research and Extension Centers located throughout the state. Undergraduate and graduate students participate in faculty research at these and other locations. |
