 Early Career Excellence Awards Description and Procedures for Selection

I.         Eligible recipients:   

There are four Early Career Excellence Awards. Any undergraduate or graduate alumni of the Department of Biological Systems of Engineering is eligible for the Early Career Excellence Award. Self-nominations are welcomed and encouraged. Nominees should have between 15 and 25 years of professional working experience, exclusive of graduate/professional school. Un-awarded nominees will remain in the selection pool for 3 years or until their eligibility expires. Past awardees are not eligible.

II.         Early Career Excellence Award Nomination Requirements:

Nominations for Early Career Excellence Award should include a letter describing the candidate's outstanding contributions to advance their field of profession, along with a current curriculum vitae/ resume (not to exceed two pages) or LinkedIn Profile. Nomination letters must address the following:

-How the candidate has excelled in their profession 

-How has the candidate provided leadership in their community and profession

-How the candidate has had a transformative impact on their chosen profession or stakeholders they serve

III.         Criteria for Selecting Award Recipients:

The BSE external relations committee, appointed by the Department Head annually, will review nominations and, based on the committee-approved criteria, will select award recipients to forward to faculty for approval.

The selection of awardees will be centered on how the candidate has demonstrated:

-Excellence

-Impact

-Leadership

IV.         Type of Recognition:

The BSE Department will organize a Fall Banquet event on campus to recognize the recipient (s) of the Early Career Excellence, Mid-Career Excellence, and Hall of  Fame Award. The recipient(s) will also engage with graduate and undergraduate students in the department as part of this event. The recipient(s) will be recognized with a plaque or certificate and publicized in Chase Hall and through a press release.
