Frequently Asked Questions

What is the application fee?

$50 – All applicants unless for currently enrolled UNL students

$25 – Currently enrolled UNL students (graduate and undergraduate)

The BSE Department does not provide application fee waivers. Application fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

What are the GRE requirements?

Applicants are not required to submit GRE scores to the department.

Do I need to contact and secure a supervisor before admission is granted?

Admission to our program is separate from funding. Therefore, we strongly recommend contacting faculty members you're interested in working with to inquire about potential funding opportunities and to learn more about their research areas.

What funding options, scholarships, or financial aid are available for graduate students?

Funding is available through individual advisors. Once a student is accepted into the program and has been assigned an advisor, there are opportunities to be nominated or apply for specific fellowships. Additionally, applicants can receive funding from other institutions, governments, and other fellowships.

By what date must applications be submitted?

We review applications on a rolling basis once three letters of reference are received and the application is complete. Although we continue to review applications after the January 15th deadline, priority for fellowships is given to those completed before this date
