BSE faculty, staff, and students shared hands-on science at July’s Discovery Days, introducing kids and families to the world of DNA. One activity focused on the importance of sunscreen: participants made UV-sensitive bead bracelets to visualize the impact of sun exposure and learn how sunscreen protects our DNA from damage. In the second activity, kids created DNA-inspired keychains while learning how everyone’s genetic code is unique. Even a pair of visiting twins had slight differences!

The booth team included Trisam Sapkota, Veronica Montesinos Cruz, Brandon McDonald, Daniel Aluma, Caroline Babirye, and Dr. Nicole Iverson. We were especially excited to have our visiting students from Uganda, Daniel and Caroline, join the fun and represent BSE on a global scale.
