Taghvaeian brings irrigation engineering expertise to BSE faculty

This week, Dr. Saleh Taghvaeian joined the Biological Systems Engineering faculty as an Irrigation and Water Resources Engineer. His appointment will be 60% research and 40% teaching.

Taghvaeian received his PhD in Irrigation Engineering from the Biological and Irrigation Engineering Department at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. Prior to that, he earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Irrigation Engineering from Ferdowsi University in Mashhad, Iran.

“We are very excited to have Saleh joining us,” said Derek Heeren, selection committee chair. “Saleh has a demonstrated track record of excellence in irrigation research, teaching, and extension. His enthusiasm for irrigation will relate well to our students, industry partners, and other stakeholders.”

Most recently, Taghvaeian was an Endowed Professor in Iranian & Persian Gulf Studies in the School of Global Studies and Partnership and Associate Professor & Extension Specialist in the Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Department at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla.

His areas of academic interest include remote sensing applications, irrigation scheduling technologies, the design and maintenance of irrigation systems, and sustainable approaches to alternative water resources.

This fall, he will be teaching AGEN 453/853: Irrigation and Drainage Systems Engineering.
